What a Smart LNB Does
It stacks the satellite feeds an Explora's multiple tuners need onto one cable, replacing the multi-cable, multi-switch installations of older systems. Fewer cables, fewer failure points, full recording capability.

Home/DStv/Smart LNB Installation and Upgrades
DStv
The smart LNB collapsed a tangle of cables into a single feed and made modern Explora setups possible. We install and configure them correctly, from fresh fitments to upgrades of older LNB hardware.
The details
Before the smart LNB, feeding a recording decoder meant multiple cables snaking from the dish, one per tuner, with switches multiplying in between. The smart LNB changed the architecture: it delivers everything an Explora's tuners need down a single cable, using clever frequency stacking inside the unit itself. That is why the smart LNB is not an optional nicety for an Explora — it is the component the decoder was designed around, and the reason single-cable installations look so much cleaner than the old spider-web approach.
Falcon TV Repairs installs smart LNBs both on new setups and as upgrades to existing dishes still wearing single, twin or quad LNBs from a previous era. An upgrade is straightforward in the right hands: the new unit replaces the old on the same dish, the correct output port is matched to each decoder in the house, skew is set precisely, and connections are sealed against the weather. Done wrong, the same job produces missing channels, failed recordings and Extra View errors, which is how many of our customers first find us.
Every installation is verified on a calibrated meter for strength and quality before we leave, and the fitment is covered by our written workmanship guarantee. Same-day service is standard across Gauteng, the price is fixed and quoted upfront, and our accredited in-house installers will tell you honestly whether your setup needs a smart LNB at all.

EXPLAINED
It stacks the satellite feeds an Explora's multiple tuners need onto one cable, replacing the multi-cable, multi-switch installations of older systems. Fewer cables, fewer failure points, full recording capability.
PORTS
Smart LNBs carry different output types for different decoder generations. We connect each decoder in your home to the correct port, which is exactly the detail DIY upgrades most often get wrong.
UPGRADES
Moving from a twin or quad LNB to a smart unit uses your existing dish and usually your existing cable. The upgrade unlocks full Explora recording and simplifies any future Extra View plans.
WHEN NEEDED
Buying an Explora, fixing recordings that clash, planning Extra View, or simplifying a messy multi-cable dish are the classic reasons. A single old HD decoder on its own may not justify the change.
INSTALLATION
We mount the unit, set skew, weatherproof every connection and confirm strength and quality on a meter at each decoder. The job is finished when the readings prove it, not before.
HONEST ADVICE
Wrong port choices, unset skew and unsealed connections are the usual DIY casualties. If yours was fitted and misbehaves, we can usually correct the existing hardware rather than sell you another unit.

How it works
01
Phone or WhatsApp us your suburb and the job — install, fault, upgrade or extra rooms. A photo of your setup speeds things up.
02
We assess the dish position, cabling and decoder, then hand you a fixed price before anything happens.

FAQs
What people ask us before they book.
Send a photo of your dish, decoder or TV on WhatsApp. We can often tell you what's wrong before we get in the van.
WhatsApp a photoNearly always. The smart LNB mounts in the same position on a standard dish, so if your reflector is straight, rust-free and well anchored, the upgrade needs no new dish at all. We check dish condition and alignment during the fitment, since a worn dish would waste the new LNB's capability, and we tell you honestly if we find a problem worth addressing.
The single-cable design usually means your existing run works, provided the coax itself is healthy — and one cable is all an Explora needs from a smart LNB. We meter the run during installation; if the cable is perished, we quote its replacement separately and upfront rather than letting old coax strangle a new LNB. Redundant extra cables from old multi-feed setups can be retired.
The fitment, skew setting, sealing and meter verification typically take under an hour on an accessible dish, plus a few minutes per decoder to confirm channels and recordings. Same-day service is our standard across the Gauteng area, and smart LNBs are stock items on our vehicles, so in most suburbs the answer is yes, today.
If the clashes are caused by the Explora being fed from an older LNB, yes — that is the textbook symptom. On an unsuitable feed the decoder cannot use all its tuners, so it refuses recordings a healthy setup would handle easily. We confirm the cause on site before the swap, because clashes can occasionally stem from cabling faults instead, and you should pay for the right fix.
Yes. The fitment, skew alignment, sealing and connections carry our written workmanship guarantee, and the LNB hardware has its manufacturer warranty besides. Because water ingress is the main cause of premature LNB death, our sealing standard is where the guarantee earns its keep — and the meter readings we record at handover give you proof of a healthy starting point.
Quite possibly. A single HD decoder is perfectly served by a simpler, less expensive LNB, and we will say so rather than upsell the smart unit. Where a smart LNB still makes sense without an Explora is future-proofing: if an Explora or Extra View setup is on your horizon, fitting the smart unit now avoids paying for a second visit later.
