The details

Degrees Matter More Than You Think

The satellite your dish points at sits tens of thousands of kilometres away, which means tiny angular errors at your roofline become enormous misses in space. A dish nudged by a ladder during gutter cleaning, twisted slightly in a windstorm, or re-fitted casually after waterproofing can still produce a picture — just one with no reserve margin, ready to collapse into pixelation the moment clouds roll in. Falcon TV Repairs re-aligns dishes with a calibrated meter, adjusting azimuth, elevation and LNB skew until both signal strength and signal quality peak.

Those two readings matter separately. Strength tells you how much signal arrives; quality tells you how usable it is, and a dish can show respectable strength while quality sits dangerously low. Aligning by watching the TV picture, as DIY guides suggest, cannot distinguish between the two and routinely leaves a dish parked on the shoulder of the beam instead of its centre. We tune on the meter, verify against multiple transponders, and record the final readings on your job card.

Once peaked, the dish is only as good as what holds it. We tighten and check the bracket, mast and clamps, replace stripped or corroded fasteners, and make sure the assembly cannot rotate in the next gale. Same-day service is standard across Gauteng, the price is fixed and quoted upfront, and the alignment is covered by our written workmanship guarantee.

What we cover

What this service includes

The specifics, in plain language.

WHEN NEEDED

What Knocks a Dish Off

High winds and summer storms, roof repairs and repainting, gutter cleaning ladders, new aerials fitted alongside, bird strikes on small mounts, and brackets working loose over years of thermal movement.

SYMPTOMS

Signs Your Alignment Drifted

Picture breaks up in weather it used to handle, quality readings on the decoder lower than they once were, some transponders worse than others, and signal that worsened suddenly after work on the roof.

METHOD

Peaked on a Real Meter

We adjust azimuth, elevation and skew against live meter readings, checking several transponders, not just one channel. The dish ends up on the centre of the beam with maximum margin in reserve.

READINGS

Strength and Quality Recorded

You get the before-and-after numbers on your paperwork, so you can see exactly what the visit achieved and have a baseline to compare against if anything changes in future.

SECURED

Locked Down to Stay Put

An alignment is worthless if the dish moves next month. We torque the clamps, check the mast and bracket for movement, and replace any fastener too corroded to hold reliably.

HONEST ADVICE

When Alignment Is Not Enough

If the dish face is warped or the mount is pulling out of the wall, no amount of adjustment holds. We will show you the problem and quote the proper fix instead of selling you a temporary tweak.

Precision DStv Dish Alignment — your questions

How do I know my dish needs re-alignment rather than something else?

The classic pattern is gradual: weather affects the picture more than it used to, and decoder signal readings have slipped from their old levels. A sudden drop right after wind or roof work also points at alignment. But cable and LNB faults mimic the same symptoms, which is why we meter the whole chain during the visit rather than assuming — you pay to fix the real fault.

Can you align the dish in one visit, and how long does it take?

Yes. A straightforward re-alignment with a sound mount typically takes under an hour, including meter verification across multiple transponders and a channel check inside. If we find loose or corroded mounting hardware, correcting that adds a little time, and any parts are quoted upfront. Same-day booking is standard across our Gauteng coverage.

Will the alignment hold through the next storm?

It should, and that is precisely why we check the mounting as part of every alignment. A dish only moves if its clamps, mast or bracket allow it to. We tighten and secure the assembly and replace suspect fasteners, and the work is covered by our written guarantee — if the dish we secured drifts again within the guarantee period, we return at no charge.

My signal dropped after the painters re-fitted the dish. Whose problem is it?

A very common story. Contractors take dishes down carefully but re-fit them by eye, which almost never lands back on the satellite. We re-align on the meter and re-secure the mount properly, and we can provide paperwork showing the dish was off-beam if you need to take it up with the contractor. Better yet, next time book us to remove and re-fit around their work.

Is my existing dish worth aligning, or should it be replaced?

If the dish face is straight and free of serious rust, alignment restores it fully and nothing needs buying — that is the outcome in most visits. If the reflector is warped, badly corroded or the mount is failing, alignment gains little and we will say so, showing you the physical evidence and quoting a replacement as a separate fixed price for you to decide on.

Do you check anything besides the dish angle?

Always. LNB skew is part of a correct alignment and is often ignored, and we verify the readings at the decoder end too, so a hidden cable fault cannot quietly eat the margin we just gained. The visit ends with the full chain confirmed healthy on the meter, which is how the alignment earns its written guarantee.
